My vocabulary is so poor I need to swear in order to compensate

my parents can be soo very annoying.

for ages i have been telling them lets do the bathroom, lets do their floor in their room.

They put it off for ages till right before my exams then decide to go ahead. This leads to ****-ups galore as well as me having to try and study whilst all hell breaks loose the same thing happened during my a levels.

Further i always have to help, they say - oh we won't bother you then i find myself doing everything. If i don't i know they will either mess it up or get ripped off.

my dad decided he'd sand the floor himself. For £250 we could have go pros in. For £70 he's rented the stuff. guess what...he's messed it up.

He did great using the large drum sander, but then used his friends high-powered edge sander and has messed it up there are grooves everywhere.

I am furious I told them just to spend a bit more, now the floor looks rubbish and always will and it will annoy the hell outta me whenever i see it. Simply because they couldn't get off their arses to do it when i was free or spend more and get it done professionally.

Oh and its a laminatye floor with a 4mm real oak veneer, so you cannot sand it down anymore as you'd go past the veneer which my dad has in two small spots.

I swear smacking him round the head with that edge sander would make me feel better. Luckily i've taken to being a keyboard warrior.

cheers to the don for changing the thread title to try and annoy me further when i am already annoyed :p

I assume they never swear when angry. Also its not as if I didn't star out everything.

Sorry to hear that mate, it is very frustrating yes. What kinda floor are they putting down just out of interest..?

It's an old quite expensive laminate floor. But the top of the laminate is 4mm of solid aged oak which looks lovely with a beautiful grain.

As for paying for it myself, whilst i can barely afford it I do now wish i'd of put in the difference - £180 and just got it done professionally. Benewfit of hindsight etc.

You're welcome. You didn't star out everything. I can arrange a holiday if you need more time for the rules to sink in?

;)

Sound just like my grandad and DIY :p always putting it off and making a right mess of things.

+ Voted for title of the year ;)

If I was your Dad I'd tell you to sod off and get your own house.
Agreed.

People have to learn how to do the various DIY tasks, and good on your dad for attempting to do it himself and save some money. So he made a mistake, as many people do, but don't think for one second that the so-called "pros" wouldn't have done as badly. The next time he does that job he'll probably do a lot better and perhaps when you have your own house, you'll be asking him to help you rather than pay through the nose for a professional, because you'll prefer to save some money once you're working 9 to 5 for it, but let's wait and see eh?

but thats my point I WOULD have done it if they'd of wanted to sand the floor before exams. Because i'm doing exams i don't have the free time.
