my vostro problem

having a problem with my vostro sometimes when i just close the laptop and then leave it for a bit i go back a bit later and try and turn the laptop on and the screen wont show, the computer is obviously still running but no screen. what i have to do is hold down the on button till it turns off then turn it on again. anyone knwo what the problem could be

I don't know exactly what the problem is but have you had a look in Control Panel - Power Options? It sounds as if it is having problems with standby and resume, for what it is worth I have my system profile setup as Home/Office Desk with only the monitor to switch off after 20 minutes but everything else as not to switch off at all so you may want to try that and see if it fixes your issue.
