Hi

I said i was going to post this ages ago but i've never got round to it.

So i had a space that was perfect for a walk in wardrobe.

Decided that i was going to do it all my self to save cash and i maybe learn some new diy skills.

So my dad managed to get some wood from his work that was used to ship a big roller from a paper mill.

Sorry if the pics are a little big (and a bit pants) but i am very pleased how it has gone. there is still stuff to do. I need to put some skirting board on and finish painting all the wood and put a piece on the edge of each shelf.

Im also going to put some led lighting under each shelf and i think a strip above the door on a switch for when the door is opened.

So far i reckon it has cost me about £100.

Good work that. Might have been tempted to paint the wood though.

Might also want to invest in some no-bleed masking tape too :p

Looks a really good job. Makes a massive difference having all that hidden away. Looks like your camera has something stuck on the lens though ;p

I like that but did it make the room feel a lot smaller? Is there a reason why you didn't plaster the inside and put a bit of wood over the front edge of the shelf to tidy things up?

Good use of the space :) Yeah I would plaster the inside and tidy up the shelf edge and put some skirting on the outside, but otherwise I think it will serve you a lot better than a flat pack wardrobe and last longer.

OK now ive seen the last few bits he posted after the pictures hes planning on doing most of what I said :P and yeah led lighting sounds cool.

Yes i did the plastering my self, i have a mate who did a couple of night classes who showed me what to do then i did it all my self. Its tricky but there is a nack to it and you pick it up quickly.

The inside is just plasterboard and very thick lining paper. I plastered the outside because it had to be flush with the existing wall to not show a join, the inside doesn't, the plasterboard lined up very well and lining paper was enough to get a nice finish.

Its not perfectly smooth but is good enough, a lot better than i was expecting to be honest. it cost me £5 for a bag of plaster and a crate of beer for my mate but saved me prob £60-70.

the masking tape is not a problem, my wifes painting is :p

The room doesnt feel any smaller, i think it should have been that way in the first place. It is so much better having all the crap hidden instead of stuffed on top of the wardrobe and we have gained so much more clothes space as we now have 2 rails that where bigger than the original wardrobe and have gotten rid of a chest of drawers.

Im not sure what kind of storage to put under the rails yet, maybe racking for her shoes or some way of storing all her hand bags.

Im also toying with putting a full length mirror on the inside of the door.

Also hoping it might of put a bit of value on the property too.

thanks for the comments.

And my camera lens has a small crack in it that i did in Vagas on one of the marble counters in our hotel room.

Not bad that mate looks great! Are there no cool space saving things you can put inside to fit more clothes in? I'd have been tempted to double up on the rails both sides so you can hang more and move the shelf up higher (space permitting ofc).

I love walk in wardrobes - You can get a hell of a lot more junk in :):)

I was relegated to half a rail - wife had the other one and half.

As you can see when we look at the shelves they look unfinished from bellow. I want to put something there but i have the lights there so it cant be wood.

I also want something to go above the door so that you cant see the led strip but not sure what i need.

any suggestions for these please?
