And shes giving me acute grief ever since :(

Theres power into the psu, the fan runs and I've tested the feeds to the mobo and only one has any voltage. Theres nothing at the on/off switch.
Is it reasonable to assume its the mobo ?

If only one feed from the PSU has voltage, then I would say it's the PSU thats gone poof*

Thats logical but I tested the psu output by pulling the connections off and testing them individually with my multimeter but I put the other meter lead onto the case which would give me a reading on 240v ac but would it on lower voltages ?

It may possibly be your RAM. Pull them out and switch the slots over- The stick in slot 1 into slot 2, and vice versa.

I've had stranger things happen, and then even stranger solutions.

If however, this does not work, I'd try to get your hands on a different PSU (Borrow a friends?) and try loading your rig. Still no joy would logically place the blame onto the mobo itself.

If you have another PSU in the house try using that to check if it's just the PSU that blew. Sounds just like it.

It might have taken the mobo/ram or even harddrives out with it though.

Is outlet grounded?
Even then there should be only half of the AC voltage between ground and case.

Black is ground, yellow should have 12V, red 5V and orange 3.3V.

I have another working psu but its too large to fit in the case, the original is tiny, but I guess I could just rig it for a test.

The on/off switch has a tiny board attatched and testing across it gives no readings, also I got no power readings from the cables leading to it.

Tried reseating the ram (one 256mb stick of pc2100) and trying the other slots as I've had that grief before but then the pc tried to start before bleeping a warning, this ones completely dead. Got no spares to try

Thanks for the replies, got work now but will try the psu later.

Replaced psu and............. still dead, no post no bleeps just dead. Do have more voltage readings to mobo though.

Under pressure "we" have decided to sack it and go for a new one. It was not quite ten years old, still with original windows install ! Originally I bought it to play il-2 when that hit the shops but it soon fell by the wayside. The mrs has been using it to do a bit of browsing for the last 8 years and thats it

Thank you to those who offered help, much appreciated.
