Hello,

My window cleaner turned up today at 12pm (ish) and I was still in bed being on a day off. All the curtains where shut.

From what I can tell by sound alone the two of them proceeded to get the ladders off the car put them up against the house at the front then walk around the back of my house and have a chat for 5 minutes. They then walked back around front, posted the note to say the windows had been cleaned, put the ladders back on the car and drove off. I jumped up and went downstairs and not a single window was wet. He obviously thought as it was a week day Id be at work as per usual. (he's not the sharpest tool in the box)

He will be back later for his six quid. TBH I have suspected this for a while as on occasion he has washed around spiders webs

What should I do? Obviously the easiest option is to just refuse to pay him and send him off with a flea in his ear. Another option is to scare him a bit with a letter from the solicitor asking for all my money back over two years? Obviously wont be pursuing this but it would be nice to get him thinking about what hes done. Hes taken approx £300 off me in all and probably only washed two windows in all that time.

Ask him what time he came round. Tell him where you where when he came round, see if he offers an explanation.

Test an area of window with a damp cloth, do it now.
If it's manky then do the same when he returns, right in front of him.

I'd have stopped after the first £20 of not washing my windows :p

It's actually very hard these days to actually firstly find a window cleaner and secondly a decent one.

Try to find another window cleaner, hes already ripped you off for £300, give him the £6 and tell him you no longer require him.

you dont actually have to pay him my mum hasnt with our window cleaner as he came round a couple of times didnt do a very good job and charges more than our previous house which had nearly double the amount of windows but thats if there is no signed agreement but if there is then just explain to him what u saw/heard..

At least he isn't sexing your wife/girlfriend.

Confront him, or stop tell him you don't want him doing your windows anymore.

When he shows up, just say 'I will happily pay you £6 when you have done what you get paid for. My windows have not been cleaned as a neighbour spotted you round the back having a chat.'
If he still says he did them, say 'follow me mate, i'll show you how to clean windows' and then take out a cloth.

DON'T pay him if you know for sure he hasn't cleaned them

Had a similar issue with my parents window cleaners a while ago, I was in the house they turned up sat in their van for about 20 minutes and then walked over to post a "ticket" through, the look on his face when I opened the door was a picture.

He did not get paid. My parents do not use them anymore, I'd advise you do the same.

The window cleaner we use to have was really good....did his job 100% perfect and couldn't fault him one bit...God we miss him, never had such clean windows :D lol

sounds liek the best course of action to me, i wouldnt pay up

But on a serious note, DON'T give him a single penny, and if he argues it, just say you know he never touched your windows and you'll use a different window cleaner.

thanks chaps

PLAN A: Ask him what time he came and ask him if he did upstairs because I definately know he didnt.

PLAN B: Stab him with the kebab skewer and dump him and his van in the quarry.

Plan B: PMSL....that could work....OR....Put the bucket on his head, then use his ladders, walk him to the top of your house and repeatedly hit his head on the window until he gets the idea :)

He will need you more than you need him. Just tell him his services are no longer required and look in the yellow pages for someone else. No need to let him justify himself as you have previously had suspicions. Tell him why and stick to it. Quite why you have carried on paying him after suspected he hasn't been doing his job I have no idea!

I had no proof as by the time I got home from work the windows could have dried/got a bit dirty as they are never really mucky anyway.

Now I know for fact as I witnessed it myself.
