Hey, my system spec is:

AMD 64 Newcastle 3800+
2GB RAM
X850XTPE

After taking a break from gaming for a bit I recently returned to play a lot of DOD:S. This is being played at 1280x1024 resolution. However, I'm getting a lot of FPS drops.

I set it to fps_max 61, cl_showfps 1 with everything on high. No HDR, Antialiasing on x2 and filtering on x4. I would have thought my card would have been able to cope with such settings....apparently not. I walk about at fps's of around 45-60. If there is more than one person infront of me then that will drop to 40. In fire fights...don't ask. I have tried with the ATI overdrive on, and with it off and I still get the same problem.

Any ideas or suggestions are is this the norm. for a rig like mine?
Thanks,
Lonz

I have a similar setup:

Opteron 146 @ 2.7Ghz
2GB RAM at 194Mhz
PCI-E X850XTPE (600/600)

I can run DOD:S at 1600x1200 with all AA and AF on and get smooth frame rates.

So either your problem is due to the slower processor (in that case clock it!) or due to a software fault (driver issue? im using 6.2 cats). You should be able to get good frame rates at 1280x1024

Whats it like if you turn graphics from high to med?? I'd rather have smooth game play that jerky with all the eye candy up high!

I know COD2 is very taxing on my card so I have to play in DX7 at a res of 1650 x 1050 I think! I know my cards the bottle neck here, which is why I have an X1900XT 512 coming today!

OK, I've tried it on the same res, with EVERYTHING down on low, no antialiasing/filtering etc. Same crappy results... FPS hovering at 35-61 no fps_max 61. I reinstalled the latest drivers yesterday and its still screwed. Should I try some older drivers?

I've used driver cleaner pro and reinstalled the drivers again. I'm not too sure whether its worked cos i just went in a server with less people in. Where can I download the latest chipset drivers?

Looked for it on the ASUS website. Tried downloading the chipset drivers, and the install thing only did the drivers for SATA/RAID etc.

update: reinstalled drivers for gfx card, and chipset, still not improvement. Its not as bad on servers with only 10 ppl in, 30 man servers are nigh impossible to get 60 fps on.

I think a 3800+ would suffice surely? Perhaps an upgrade to an X1800XT would be beneficial?
