So...seems it's a bit of a mess over there and I must admit I'm confused about the whole thing. To deny that the Rohingya are being oppressed, seems from all the evidence I can find, to be pretty stupid. However - the government seem to be doing sweet FA. A so-called Nobel prize winner hasn't lifted her finger.
On top of that we have an actual Muslim community being heavily oppressed and yet I don't see the usual islamists over there going nuts. There's no mass terror attacks. There's nothing apart from these poor people suffering.

What the actual Jeff is going on?

Well some of these posts are certainly enlightening! As always with events there are two sides, and as always we're not being told about both.
I wasn't aware of what lead up to this, but no matter what it was the actions taking olace now are not excusible.

??? I'm assuming that you think all of those above are fine if it's done to muslims??

I really hope I have assumed wrong, if not then I have absolutely no words for someone that thinks like you.

Very wrong. Quite obviously a very sarcastic answer!

Can you suggest what the rest of the world should be doing that would solve this problem, bearing in mind that Myanmar's government is still largely controlled by the military junta?

I can't, but then that's why I'm not an international diplomat :D

It makes for some horrific reading. :(

I guess the question is, what can we actually do? I doubt there’s much appetite for any form of military action, and will political action change much? It’s the military doing it, the same one that’s been in control for decades and closed the country down to outside influence and investment.

The trouble is it's a sovereign country. The western world is sick to death of having to intervene (rightly or wrongly) because it always without fail turns in to a crapfest. There will be civil war. There will be guerrilla/terrorist attacks. It'll be another total disaster.

However standing around with our thumbs up our backsides isn't a solution.

Wish I had an answer.

Perhaps not, but it's not like they're actually going all out to do something about the situation.

In any case, imagine if Bangladesh took a firm military stance. Really, they should be willing to go the distance to protect other Muslims but of course things don't work like that.

Of course not. It's one way traffic. Western country intervenes in Muslim country - terror attacks abound.

Sad part of reality nowadays :(.

Sadly it's going the way that the world just doesn't give a crap and Muslim countries can just merrily tear themselves apart. They're not willing to help one another, why should anyone else help them?
