There is some sort of alarm triggering from this telegraph pole which looks like its a regular openreach distribution pole, but it has some sort of black box on it which is now beeping loudly with four beeps every five seconds. I've no idea what it is but have reported the pole to openreach who can hopefully resolve it. Does anyone know what it is or could be? Sorry for the poor image, taken from street view for now. One thing I do know is that it's damn annoying

If it's near an area where kids congregate and have been a nuisance it may be a deterrent supposedly only audible by the under 20 year olds due to its pitch.

Likely Openreach equipment to trace which line is which. Connect this at one place then go and test by listening for it amongst the multiple connections back at the green box.
A few years back some idiot fell asleep at the wheel outside ours and wiped out the telegraph pole so hard it ripped all the lines out of the underground chamber 50 metres away. The engineers came to install something similar to ascertain which line went to which premises after the first "repair" left my line connected to a neighbour instead of going back to the exchange

Wrong - You can't hear it without a amplifier - and it's also a continuous beep. :)

There's something like this at a multistorey carpark near me. I must have excellent hearing because it's very annoying. The Mrs can't hear it at all :D

It's a good job you followed the correct procedure and posted on an computer themed internet forum instead of doing something stupid like calling BT or openreach.

It's a good job you followed the correct procedure and posted a smartass reply instead of doing something stupid like actually reading the OP's post.
