Mystery surrounds the "completely unprecedented" deaths of hundreds of elephants in Botswana over the last two months.

Dr Niall McCann said colleagues in the southern African country had spotted more than 350 elephant carcasses in the Okavango Delta since the start of May.

No one knows why the animals are dying, with lab results on samples still weeks away, according to the government.

Botswana is home to a third of Africa's declining elephant population.

oh and it wouldn't be fit for 2020 without this little snippet from the article

Either way, without knowing the source, it is impossible to rule out the possibility of a disease crossing into the human population - especially if the cause is in either the water sources or the soil. Dr McCann points to the Covid-19 pandemic, which is believed to have started in animals.

"Yes, it is a conservation disaster - but it also has the potential to be a public health crisis," he said.

I've never been religious but if I was I would certainly be wondering if we were getting close to end times, I wonder what the year that keeps on giving has install for us next ? an Asteroid or Yellowstone erupting wouldn't feel so out of place

The JW's interpretation of scripture say 607 BCE to 1914 CE is 2520 years (prophetic day for a year) the end times or last days began in 1914 when Jesus became king of God's kingdom, in the first century Jesus explained to his apostles when they asked what would mark His presence and what would be the conclusion of the system of things? pestilences or diseases was predicted during the end times or last days and with accuracy along with many other woes or pangs of distress mentioned in Holy Scripture by Jesus Christ, it's a prophecy that is observable for all to see and therefore is being fulfilled right now?. Not the destruction of the planet but the removal of the wicked?

3.5 times = 1260 days. By doubling both figures we can easily conclude that 7 times = 2520 days. Then, by applying a-day-for-a-year, we deduct that 7 times = 2520 years. Amazing as it may seem, it is 2520 years from 607BCE to 1914CE. http://jehovahsjudgment.co.uk/607/

failed prophecies if 587 BCE is the correct date for Jerusalem's destruction http://jehovahsjudgment.co.uk/607/conclusion.html

Personally I would welcome a new world order because this system of things and all manner of violence and abuse and the many many troubles continue unabated, increase in anxiety and or fear?.

So sad that pretty much all the worlds wonderful animals are doomed. Hopefully they can stick around long enough to outlive us dickheads and start the world anew.

That’s unlikely though as, ironically, their biggest destroyers are also their only hope of survival.

I just think we (humans) are on the downturn myself. Like all populations. Peak and trough.

This was really sad to hear. And very very strange. Especially if no poison. Makes little sense apart from disease

Poor elephants :(

Perhaps Covid has passed from us

Very sad, hopefully whatever is causing it can be isolated. First thoughts was something in the water but they haven't found any other unusual animal deaths.

Could be a human disease that has crossed over into elephants.
That's always a possibility.
It's one thing when a virus kills humans, it's quite another when it kills elephants :(
Well, the 2016 estimate for African Elephant population is 415,000 (a drop of 111,000 in a decade).
A quick calculation would have 350 deaths as a percentage of that to be equivalent to nearly 7 million humans.
The drop of 111,000 (from a population of 526,000) would be equivalent to 1,7 billion humans.

Sadly, this is the response to expect nowadays. When 10's of thousands of our fellow citizens die a horrible death, we protest in the street because the pubs are shut. When some animals die in a foreign land, it's Kleenex time.

To be fair, they are more victims of circumstance than humanity who pollutes, overpopulates and destroys wherever he goes.
