I gave this a go today and I'm a little confused, there seem to be a lot of good reviews out there and a lot of people recommending it. I don't seem to "get" it, to me it just seems like an incredibly simple platformer with spectrum graphics and extremely repetitive music.

Anyone got any insight?

It's far more challenging and exciting at higher difficulty levels.

It is just a simple platformer though, it started off life as a flash game.

Being a simple platformer doesn't make it a bad game though. :)

I'm up to chapter 21 and I can agree it gets damn tough at times; shouting at the tv hard.
I still keep coming back to it though... such a fantastic unique game.

I'm with you!

Heard nothing but praise, downloaded the demo and just couldn't see what the fuss is about.

Bought this the other day but it never seems to save my progress.......... completed about 30 chapters but they are all still locked and I have no achievements so not sure what is happening.

Any ideas?
Cheers
Steve

I guess it's probably just not my cup of tea, I gave it another go last night to see if some of the other levels made is more interesting for me but I was still pretty unimpressed. From what you guys say the fun is in the difficulty?

I just found it frustrating to a fault, sure easy games are no fun but being difficult for difficult's sake doesn't do it for me. I like there to be tricks and clever game mechanics that make it hard rather than just adding more obstacles.

such a fantastic unique game.
That's another thing, I didn't see anything unique about it at all, not one part of it stood out for me from the millions of commercial and home brew platformers out there.

Graphics - Extremely Basic
Music - Abhorrent
Game mechanics - Run and jump
Level design - Difficult rather than clever

Especially when there are such brilliant platformers out there already like braid.

If you're playing it on your own, then i dont blame you for not thinking much of N+.

But its MAGIC when you get 4 player co-op! I've yet to meet a person whos played it co-op and not liked it

I'd say they're worlds apart.

Braid is mostly puzzle based, where N+ is entirely timing/skill. I think the joy in playing N+ comes from finally cracking a really difficult level by string a set of jumps together perfectly.

I think someone mentioned that it's a game for perfectionists that don't get frustrated easily. It just might not be your cup of tea. :)

Braid is spectacularly good though, and I'd have that over N+ any day. :D

I love this game. Well the PC version anyway, haven't got it on the works pc for some reason and can't download it as the site is blocked :(

I love it when you finally master a level that you've been stuck on for ages, when you manage to time everything just right.

Playing N+ is quite a masochistic process. It was however one of the few arcade games where I managed to 200/200 it, and although it has it's frustrations, it feels so rewarding when you finally manage to beat a level/chapter that's been bugging you for a while.

One critiscism that I do level at it though is that you have to tackle the levels in blocks of five which means it's certainly not a pickup and play game as you have to be willing to beat the whole chapter to save progress.

I can see why some people don't really enjoy it though, it's certainly the kind of game for people who like high levels of difficulty.

you should watch some of the vid replays of the latter levels of the pros. You start to see how cool it is to a degree. Part of it is about trying to be a slick looking as possible :D. The other bit is just trying to complete the later levels
