OK, so it's been a while since I upgraded and my current system is socket-a,
so forgive if this is a dumb one...

If I get a core2duo with a fsb of 1066 can I run PC5300 memory at
it's default speed of 667, or can you only run it at the same speed as
the proc bus?

m/b will probably be a p35, maybe the abit.

ta!

No his memory is rated 667mhz. So if they bus is at 1066mhz and his 667mhz ram reaches 1066mhz then I want some of that memory. You can up the FSB on these boards really high, have had mine at 1700+FSB but my 1066mhz memory need to still be set via dividers to it's rated 1066mhz.

The motherboard should autodetect the memory and it will be fine. If you overclock then dont forget to lower memory divider so the overclock will bring it back up to around 667mhz give or take. Usually unless it's decent overclocking memory you need to keep it as close to it's rated speed for stability.

Is that what you were asking?

Thanks Tainted, that's exactly what I was asking, I guess I didn't phrase that question very well!

Thanks Cob too.
