Hello all.

I recently passed my full test and purchased a 1989 Kawasaki GPX600R.

I have no problem with this bike other than the exhaust.

Its almost whisper quiet and lacks any road presence.
She has a Motad nexxus exhaust system fitted at present....ideally I'd like something that has a bit of growl...nothing too loud but something that will alert cars that I am there.

Does anyone know if I have to replace the full system? My google fu skills aren't as good as they used to be and I can't seem to find anything for this bike.

If anyone happens to know of any exhausts etc etc it would be very helpful.

Kindest regards.

Jon

Before you go and buy a new exhaust does the current one have a removable baffle as removing this will make it louder?

Save your cash towards another bike, having a loud exhaust will not make cars notice you, Good defensive riding will make them see you.

The Nexus rear silencer combines the final 2 into 1 section for the 4-2-1 exhaust, so you can't just remove the rear silencer and fit an aftermarket unit. You might be able to hack it about to fit, but IIRC the Nexus will be double skinned at the front so it will be a big PITA.

The original exhaust is a 4-2 system, with a balance pipe. If you can find a good original system (unlikely...) you could probably chop the original cans off and replace with a pair of slip on cans. However, unless you get lucky with s/h parts this is probably going to cost more than the bike is worth.

The engine in the ZZR600 is very similar, so there is an outside chance you could make a ZZR exhaust fit but you'd need to do some research.
