n00b Mac related question

Ok so I just got my hands on a black macbook and its sweeet

Thing is I want to restore it back to a fresh install of Tiger 10.4. I have stuck the dvd in the machine and tried running the "Install Mac OS X" file but it gives an error saying it cannot be installed on this Macbook.

Is there a special technique to install a fresh copy ?

I'm too used to Windows but I could see me making the switch complely to Mac from what I have seen so far.

I didnt get a CD with he machine, i bought the macbook off Ebay then i bought a copy of Tiger.

Hmm now I'm having some real problems, leaving work tonight the macbook was taking ages to shut down so I pulled the power and when I try and boot it backup all I get is a grey screen and a flashing icon in the middle of the screen. It flashes between the apple logo , a folder with a question mark and a no entry sign
