Got an Athlon 4000 that I believe runs at 2400MHz?

Am I right in thinking that this should easily overclock to 3000MHz without messing about with voltages etc?

If so, am I right in thinking that I should increase my FSB to 250, change my HT value to 4x250 and set my RAM divider to 5:4?

Just checking that what I think I understand from reading is correct.....

that would indeed clock to 3ghz assuming your multi is x12, but i would have thought it would need a voltage increase... pretty safe up to 1.55v mate, as long as you keep an eye on temps :)

a little confused over the memory divider issue. In Jokester's guide he says that "BIOSes typically do this in two methods, the first is to give you the RAM speed in relationship to the FSB at stock (so for example 166MHz would represent a ratio of 5:3 - FSB:RAM)." but I do not understand why this would be the case. Surely 166 would only relate to 5:3 if the FSB was 277?
What exactly is a 166 divider and why would the following happen?

"At an fsb of 220 / 11 multi / 166 divider, the ram will run at 172mhz
At an fsb of 240 / 10 multi / 166 divider, the ram will run at 200mhz"

Is the divider a ratio or not?

RAM:

ddr400 = 200mhz
ddr333 = 166mhz
ddr266 = 133mhz

CPU at stock = 200mhz fsb, thus a 400 divider would run ram at 200mhz, if you overclock at all, the ram would go up in a 1:1 ratio..basically...

divider ratio (fsb:dram)

ddr400 (200) 1:1 (6:6)
ddr333 (166) 6:5 (6:5)
ddr266 (133) 3:2 (6:4)
ddr200 (100) 2:1 (6:3)

@240fsb ddr333 divider (166, or 6:5) (240 x 5) / 6 = 200mhz
@220fsb ddr333 divider (166, or 6:5) (220 x 5) / 6 = 183mhz

If you had your fsb at 300mhz, to achieve a ram speed of 200mhz you would need to use ddr266 divider (133, or 6:4) - (300 x 4) / 6 = 200mhz

.... i think ;)

so 5:4 is not a valid ratio as one figure should be 6?

in that case at 6:5 on an FSB of 250 my RAM would run at (250x5)/6 = 208MHz?

As it's only an overclock of 8MHz, would my RAM be ok ?
