Well I've signed up to F@home as per the request in GD - thought I'd give my Athlon x2 4400+ a bit of a caning - it's also got 2gb of ram and running windows x64.

As stated in the GD thread I was having difficulty getting the 2nd service to run despite following the instructions carefully... The first service runs and installs fine - with all the correct flags set ;) The second time I go through the process in the 2nd and seperate folder that I've copied the console.exe to - it creates the config files but nothing else.

I'm happy to be joining team 10 :) Hope I can be of some use.

I might install the console version on some other machines if I have the chance to. :)

Welcome to the team Freefaller :)

sorry to hear you're having problems with the second client - I'm sure we can help you get that sorted, like you said it's probably something really simple

once you've got past any initial problems it's generally plain sailing from there on, Folding is by far the most reliable project I've ever been involved with

Thanks for the welcomes! :D

I've got the 2nd core working now - I re-did it without being absolutely knackered, it helps a little ;)

Now... is there a way of monitoring your progress once you've got the console only version running?

ahh that's good to hear :)

as for monitoring there are two main programs that many people use, FahMon and Electron Microscope III (or EMIII for short) - I would recommend FahMon for simplicity though EMIII does offer some pretty cool features like being able to view a diagram of your current protein and seeing it's present state, Matblack runs both cos he's a hardcore folding addict :D

BigStan has very kindly written a couple of guides which are included in the sticky - direct link

14 points? That's not good at all. The WU he crunched was p1706 which is worth 56 points. Mr. Freefaller has observed an EUE, an early unit end. It can mean that the machine is unstable, which is most likely, or that the simulation naturally came to a place from which it could not continue.

Bah - it's probably windows x64 being a pain.... I think it finished early as you say - I've got 2 more crunching away now, anything you need to check that everything is ok?

you could post a section of the logfile - might be helpful to see

just keep an eye out for multiple EUE's - if you get a lot then it can mean your machine is a bit close to the edge for Folding (assuming it's overclocked), sometimes just a slight slackening of ram timings is enough to sort it

you must have got quite a way through that small WU to get 14 points awarded so it's not as obviously unstable as stex for example who got 0 points for 9 WUs and finally 13 points for his last WU - looks like maybe stanford have remotely killed off his client as there's been nothing from him the past couple of days (that happens if you get a LOT of failed WUs in a row)
