Presently running a P4 2.4 Socket 478 setup with an AGP 6600gt gfx card and have ocme to the conclusion there is not much mileage in attempting to upgrade this setup

have just got hold of a P4 520 2.8 Socket 775 PC with PCI-e. Running an X600 Pro GFX card which at this stage am not sure will be any quicker than my first rig. This is a Dell Dimension 5000 so am not sure if the case and/or PSU (305W i think) is reusable.

In terms of upgrades, am on a limited budget, so am looking to stage the upgrades.

I initially thought of buying a new Mobo, (prob Mem as it is cheap atm), case and PSU and then get a better GFX card later, and then later still get a funky new dual or quad core processor.

Can anyone recommend a Mobo that will work with my antique processor, but will take a modern one in 6-12 months time? Not that fusssed about OverClocking as such but that might be nice to get some cheaper bang for my buck.

Main requirements are HL2, TF2, (for me) and Sims2, Battle of Middle Earth 2 (for my kids ;) ) - so will the X600 Pro be good enough ?

thanks

there's a question ! - as little as possible ;)

looking at the Mobos available here they start from £40ish - guessing a case at £30 ? PSU included ? and memory about the same ?

so I reckon about £100 to £150 now and then £100 or so on a GFX card and I have no idea how much procs are !

like I say - I am a cheapskate so if I can get a system up and running for less than £100 that will match (or better) my current 2.4 set-up, using the 2.8 proc, but is upgradeable then I will be v. happy.

or am I completely out ? (feel free to laugh at me if I am !)
