Currently have an N40L with 8GB ram and on the whole its a fantastic bit of kit, but when using Air Video and PS3 media server it seems to struggle.

Would I notice a significant improvement on a G7 with a Intel Pentium G840 2.8GHz Dual-Core processor?, also does anyone know if you can upgrade the processors on this kit?

I use a ML110 G4 which has a 2ghz(?) xeon, which is dual core and that transcodes everything I throw at it via PS3 media server, we did however have issues with wireless bandwidth not being up to the task, so went wired, after that happy days. I would expect the G840 to compare to the xeon or be even better than the 1 in my server thats a few years old now.

hmm so a ML110 G7 with same amount of RAM should be more than able to cope with on the fly transcoding to a couple of devices at once?

Sorry for the delay, changing my router the weekend meant I had to rejig the network and the servers static ip.

Right I was able to get TV 720p mkv's streaming to 3 devices (2 xbox and 1 ps3) and it seemed to be coping with it ok, cpu (xeon 3040 @ 1.86GHz) did max for a short while then settled to 80-90%. Having looked at cpu world and compared the scores, the G840 looks to be about twice as fast as my aging xeon.

PS3 media server 1.21.1 on WHS v1 with 2gb of ram.
