So i have got myself a Server rack :D i have a few bits i want to put into in and the N54L (running Xpenology) is one of them. this is just used for family backup access of photos etc. They can all upload photos for backups. However i really would like to put the "guts" into a 2U Rack. has any one ever done this ? I know its not "ideal" but its so power frugal and steaming performance running that software im really keen to keep it along side the other servers in the rack.

There was a post on the N40L thread where someone had two side by side in a rack.
I believe it uses either 3 or probably 4U.

It would probably be better to just build a 2U rack server and it would probably perform slightly better than an N54L.
(From someone with 2 N54's)

I took mine apart and I do have to say that HP's design is amazing for it but it's that design that makes it compact.

The outta skin is the support for the backplane, without it it's just a single thin sheet metal bracket with four sata\power adaptors.

Not saying it's impossible but you would need to create something to support it, and that's some work when you can just create a 'floor' in the rack and place it on it.
