After having this MSI 580 frozr 2 for about a month now, For the first 2 weeks it was fine but recently I've noticed a whining noise when gaming.
Oddly enough it's pitch is changing depending how much of the screen the game was covering and how much is 'going on' in game as such, and it disappears altogether when the game is minimized.

I'm not 100% it is the GPU as I've read about TX750 PSU's sometimes having this problem. I opened the case whilst gaming and tried to listen but it seems to come from GPU not PSU, though I could be wrong.

This has been slowly getting louder over the weeks and its starting to get a bit annoying, It isnt the fans on the GPU I dont think.. Could it be the coils? Should I think about an RMA?

If it is the caps try enabling v-sync to see if it helps.

This. Don't think its anything to worry about, more annoying than an actual problem.

Think its a common occurance with GPU's when you get very high frame rates, like in menus or FMV's. V-sync should solve the problem.

Yeah that would make sense, It is more noticable in MW2 where it isnt capped at all and varies 150-400 fps whislt playing, Though I'd like to keep it at that FPS if I can.. Is there anything else I can do other than enable vsync?

I have the same mate on my GTX 570. If I open a web page or switch something graphically it kinda whines up/down. Glad I'm not the only one, thought I was mad. I don't notice it in games though.

It's really common, and will vary in severity depending on what PSU you're using, even if neither PSU or GPU are faulty. My 480 had severe coil whine with a Corsair 750W PSU, and a lot less with my current CoolerMaster. However, both PSUs were fine.

Learn to live with it would be my advice.

I had the same problem with my gtx 580, I had antec true power psu 650w but I when I changed my psu to the hx1000w the problem stopped!.

If you can try and get your hands on another psu or try your gtx 580 in another computer.

I'm so glad that others have encountered this kinda problem as well, I've got Palit GTX 580 and sometimes at certain points while gaming it just whines up and then stops after few mins, was thinking about RMA'ing it back, but for the past few days it didn't happen like it used to everyday, and gonna check if it still happens with V-Sync on.
