Hi all,

I've just recently acquired an N64 and I'm trying to set it up to give the best picture quality possible.
I've taken a couple of steps and bought an 'N64 S-Video & AV cable - PAL version' from a console goods website & also a scart adapter for composite/s-video (as the TV I'm buying soon doesn't have S-Video, just scart).

Is this this the best set up I could go for, before modding the console itself to RGB? I'd be interested to hear other forum members setups, as this may be quite a cheap fix if it works.

TV I'm looking at picking up is a Sony Bravia kd55xd8005 or 7 series (depending on prices at the end of this month).

Thanks,

Kris

I did this a while back; I got the best picture via an RGB S-video to component output cable, into a RGB component to HDMI upscaler.

The important bit is that both the s-video cable and HDMI upscaler accept the RGB signal. I'd don't have access to the links atm, but if you google you should find everything you need.

Sorry, I'm getting confused with the SNES which I believe does output an RGB signal with the right cable. Think I'm still correct with the cable options above, best you'll get without the RGB mod.

What you've got is what's best already. The TV will be upscaling to 'hd' internally, so you won't get a better picture by upscaling it yourself via boxes first.

Stick with what you've got already

Thanks everyone. The TV I'm using has an S-Video input and it's acceptable - want to avoid modding or spending large amounts of money on what's just a bit of fun at the moment.
The new TV I'm buying at the end of the month has a scart socket so I'll use my S-Video/composite > Scart adapter, as I've tested it on my current set up and it seems to be the same as just connecting s-video.
