Hi Guys I tried to get just under 3ghz out of my e6550, I followed the overclock guide by Monstermunch for this board, but some of his voltage settings didnt match up with what I was looking at, and some items I didnt know what to change to, anyway I changed what I could then hit 7 x 425 fsb. It wouldnt post Could any of you guys help me with the below image, what should I change each of these to before I oc? Thanks in advance!

Ok, I've just spent two days mucking around with the same mobo and an e4300 and I'm now at 3ghz (375 x 8), stock cpu volts. me memory is at the same voltage as yours so leave that alone now.
What I did was to set the [memory clock mode] to "linked", then for [FSB- memory ratio] select "sync mode"
Those settings got me out of all me troubles, I couldn't get above 2.2ghz no matter what I did.
The only problem with that is mate I cant run my memory above 720 (ignore the pic) because I have 4gb and it wont post otherwise!
So are you saying if I leave everything as it is and just change my fsb I should be good to go?

Ok, currently ive got a +.3 on my mem volt, giving me 2.1, which is what it should be running at. Timings are auto, but also work when specified 5-5-5-12. I can only post with my memory at 720mhz or lower as im using 4gb.

Ok, I tried 425 fsb and cpu volt all the way up to 1.45. No joy

Ok, I presume you've tried raising it a bit at a time from the default 333 fsb?

Remember, a bit at a time when overclocking. You need to keep upping the fsb by 10 at a time until it won't post, then you know that something else needs tweaking.

What is the highest FSB you've had it posting at?

My settings are:-

RAM - set at 800mhz, unlinked
RAM Voltage - +0.1v
RAM timings - Auto
CPU Voltage - 1.325v
FSB 400

Handily, with my default 8 x multiplier on the CPU, that gives me 3.2Ghz and a FSB:RAM divider of 2.

I've also left on all the speedstep gubbins, but then I always do, as I like to save a bit of energy where I can!
Ok ill give them a whirl bit by bit and let you know.
Shouldnt your Ram Voltage be +0.3 as by default on this board it 1.8v so you need to hit 2.1?

DDR2 is rated at 1.8v anyway, it's only some brands of overclockable RAM that need 2.1v, or where the manufacturer specifies it I guess?

You will get there with your overclock, it just takes a bit of time, patience and luck to hit on the right combo for your setup.

I built my Mum a pc recently based on the 650i Ultra chipset with an E4400, and it wouldn't go above 2.5Ghz with any amount of volts, or 278FSB. Then I read about the FSB 'hole' with those boards so tried a 333FSB and got 3Ghz straight away. I just needed to up the CPU volts to 1.4v to make it Orthos stable.

Best way I find is always to feel your way slowly towards an overclock, to find what works for your rig, as not everybody's is the same. :)
Argh! I was about to give these a go mate when I got a little distracted by cod4 being delivered, so I started it up and about 5 minutes into the game it locked up with a constant high pitch squeal, so I restarted and updated my xfi drivers, 10 minutes in again, same problem. What sound card are you running? I have a Xfi Gamer, any ideas why this is happening?

Not really I'm afraid mate. :( I've got an X-Fi Music, which has been fine in everything.

I would put everything back to stock, and load the bios defaults and see where you're at then.

Are you sure it's the sound card causing the problem? It might be the symptom, but your GPU could be locking up, or some kind of bus problem?

You could try removing the X-Fi and trying onboard sound just to eliminate it?
Hey Tooks, well I guessed it was my xfi because my last build had an xfi and it happened once before on that, however it only did it once, this time its every time.
I moved my Xfi card down a pci slot, and this time I didnt get the sound and lockup, but a blue screen with CTEDSPDX.DLL, CTEDSPDX.DLL and NTFS.
I looked up CTED and it says its creative! now I dont know what to do

Driver cleaner pro the creative and graphics card files, and then reinstall?

How old is your windows installation? How many times have you removed different types of driver and reinstalled new ones? Could be due a good old spring clean?!

Its a clean install mate :( Drivers off cd, then new vista driver update. All up to date nforce and forceware drivers

Not good!

Try uninstalling the X-Fi and physically removing it.

Try the game with on board sound, and see what happens?

Could be the X-Fi is faulty if it's ok, or more likely a driver conflict with the creative drivers and something else on your system?
Ok Tooks, ive completely removed it, now all I have in add/remove is my 8800 drivers and cod4, nothing else installed, ive also removed the card from my pc, ill give it a whirl now and get back to you, give me 5

Dammit! No bsod, no crazy sound, but a complete lockup! Ive got cod4 locked up on the screen right now (using a notebook to type this) argh! what could it be now?

Aren't we up to 169.XX something now?

My 8800 had 157.XX drivers with it, and both seem to be very similar in performance and stability terms.
OCCT crashed within the first minute tooks :( My system hasnt locked up but OCCT is flashing 'Crashed'
Eak, what could it be?

Tried again and this time OCCT crashed and my pc locked up

Ok, update. I uninstalled my display drivers, ran OCCT, same again, locked up. So I rebooted, hit the BIOS and put my mem back to 667mhz (I was at 720) and now occt is well into 10 minutes and it hasnt locked up. Ill reinstall my gfx drivers and let you know what happens then

Tooks!! ive fixed it!! Dropped my mem back to 667 and it stable! also running cod4 with no issues! although I havent put my xfi back in yet (to be honest the on board sounds exactly the same.. cant beleive I just said that)What speed is your mem running at?
I wonder whats the highest I can go, weird how I could sit in windows no problem at 720 but under load it locked up, ill maybe try 710 next see what happens

Nice one! :)

Sounds like you're getting somewhere, and getting to know your way around the bios too!

My memory is at 800mhz, and with my FSB at 400, I guess I can believe that to be true, as the divider is probably at 2. I'm only running 2GB with two sticks though.

Yeah im glad I found out what it was, my pc was nearly in bits again ;)
Ok ive got the memory at 700 now, so far so good in OCCT, touch wood!

Right, so now for the OC, so you think ill get away with just nudging the fsb and cpu vcore? Shall I leave all the others on auto?
Do you know of any decent temp monitoring for Vista64, I dont think TAT runs under it!?
Also, when I run OCCT, I notice in speedfan that even when my cpu temps hi 40degs, the fan speed doesnt go above 1430, but ive got it on auto.. any ideas why it doesnt go higher, or does the cpu need to get hotter :S
Thanks again for your help Tooks

Its not my day Tooks, I tried a little OC with noy joy. I hit 366 x 7 and left the cpu vcore @ 1.325.. it wouldnt post. I had to clear and set back to default 333 and default vcore (which claims its 1.35 but cpuz says its actually 1.312)
Any ideas whats stopping me?

update: Ive now tried 366 @ 1.325, 366 @ 1.35 and 400 with both of the previous and @ 1.45
It just doesnt want me to OC :( Is there something im missing (btw all of which are unlinked with the memory at 700mhz)

update: I HAVE OVERCLOCKED... to a massive 2.4ghz! haha, 345 x 7 @ 1.312. Memory at 710Mhz.
Anyone any suggestions what I try next? bearing in mind the above attempts failed

update: Ok, strangley enough, 375 @ 1.35 has now posted!

Can someone please explain the fsb:dram ratio? CPUZ now reports 16:15.. is this bad? Is the idea to get 1:1?
Cheers
