N6600GT problems

hi all im new here ... i already asked around but with no luck so i thought guys in THIS place will help me for sure

This is the GPU:

(it says 300W supply is recommended)

when i bought the GPU it worked fine for a month after i tried playing half life on it it DID work but after a few days the pc started to freeze
i took it back to the shop and they replaced it
when i used it again it worked again well enough for a while
and then the same thing started to happen again wierd vertical lines on the screen and pc freezes didnt go past the menu screen on AOE3
i tested the gpu on my friends pc and it didnt work there ether ...

basically the pc got froze for no reason occasionally since i got that card and when i started it up a again got a message complaining that gpu doesnt get enough power
the temp of the card when NOTHING was running just pc was on nvidia display showed it to be 80 C so when i try and run any game the pc turns off (im guessing cos the gpu overheats)
i eventook the sides of the pc case off didnt help much

i have no idea how to read the PSU specifications only one thing is that there are two out of three sockets conencted to the mo-bo from it ... cos thats how much it takes ...
thats about it ... ah and also it has 6USB sockets but none of em work ... but i doubt that it has to do with this ...

i have no idea whats going on ... i think its ether not enough power or not enough cooling ive already spent about 4 months batteling with it

please help ANY suggestions are welcome

80C under idle is very very hot for this card... under load it will break the 95C mark easy. Card should idle at about 40C-55C. you may need to check that the heatsink on the card is correctly seated.

Your PSU may be a little on the shy side for this card.

Do you have the power cable plugged into the card? the 4-way molex on the back edge!

What driver revision are you using?

Are you sure they did infact swap the graphics card for another one.
Because as said those temps are high.
Can you try the card in another pc, if still problems return for another make of card.

HOW shy is it? i don underststand what all that "+5V & +3.3V combined load" means
and yes obviously i have power cable pluged into card

ah and i returned the card to the shop once and they SAID they reparied it after that it didnt work and came back to them but the warranty was out so they sent it back to the asus manufacturer and they supposadly repaired ... both times it DID work for a while after it got repaired cos nothing froze for like a week or so ...
im quite sure that asus fixed whatever was wrong cos i could see they made changes to it (Transisitors)

and i tried many different drivers
first of all drivers that come with it
then latest from nvidia
then lastest from asus ...
so
im dont know what to think ..

Id say its definately overheating if its 80 idle, id reseat the cooler with some AS5, or replace it if you can, and also its the PSU if its switching yor PC off when you try running a game, it hasn't got enough power to feed the card.

have you got the power connected to the card? if it aint it will run hot!

how shy, i'd say a good 50Watts or so.... and make sure no other cable for disk drive etc shares the same supply line.

i do not think the would change any components, unless the shop tried a bodge job on you, and while not under warranty, they should not have done that
