Hi

I have a asus n66u router connected to a virgin media superhub which is in modem mode.

Im trying to find out why the range is not as good as I had hoped from the n66u

I have Inssider running on my laptop and I notice signal is very up and down

the next nearest networks are very steady at around 54 -57dbm

yet Im in the same room as the n66u and my signal is jumping from 27 to 38 and even 50dbm ?

is something wrong here?

cheers

Known issues, Asus have a new driver they are working on.

Use AsusMerlin WRT and the EM Build, has massive wifi range gain very good

Ta for heads up - was wondering why mine was playing up recently too.
Seems Asus screwed up the latest firmware since applying them security updates for FTP/USB disk. :(

Hi

have you got the same problem as me where the signal is very unstable according to Inssider?

Im not sure its causing me problems as such but when I scan for networks and see most are very stable and mine is very up and down.

Using WIFI analyser I don't suffer as much as you mate - mine jumps around 35-50 whilst in the same room.

What I have noticed though is that the missus' laptop (which I regularly use) has been slowing down quite a lot whilst even just web browsing - only thing thats changed is that I've upgraded to the latest firmware.

Not sure which merlin one to try as the non-beta ones are the older ones (with the security issues) - SDK5 ones I ain't got a clue about and the beta ones - well the word beta is scary! lol

Might just stick with something official pending a proper merlin release of the latest 374.4561 release.

Just tested in the other room - eek jumping around between -60 and -70!!

yeah I might just wait for another stock firmware release , Asus seem to release them quite often, I emailed them today as well to see what they say, not had a response yet.

Let's us know please if it improves your signal stability?

I'm tempted to try Merlin but I just can't be bothered yet to have to reset the router afterwards like I would presume it would need after switching from stock to Merlin and have to setup all my devices again, such a pain to do as I have stuff like slingbox which needs to be reset after network changes.

30 mins to reset, setup and what ever for something that's going to be faster, stable and just works.

I've 50 devices in the house that runs on my N66U and running custom f/w does mean you might have to tinker but i've now got it down to 20 mins to set anything backup
