Hi, iv just gotten my N80 through the post, it seems very nice and sleek, and im not finding it slow like some people have said it is?

Anyways, i have a few questions as im a bit of a phone n00b and cant find the answers out in my instruction booklet.

Is there anyway of getting the phone to lock automatically, i dont know why but it seems annying for me that i have to hit yes after moving from from a D600.

How do i browse the internet on it, i have wifi in my house so thats not a problem or anything, i just cant figure it out

Are there any decent programs out on the internet that are recomended for me to put onto my new phone?

thanks.

the phone won't lock automatically.
the good news is that there is a free app that will lock the keypad after a preset time.
try searching for autolock on this forum

it's freeware so it's available in various places.
unless you mean to lock the phone completely, in which case there is an option to do that on the phone but i can't remember where.

to browse the internet with wifi, you first need to setup an access point on the phone
go to connectivity/connection manager
then choose available wlan
your wifi router must be set in discoverable mode, otherwise the phone will never find it.
choose your wireless connection, click options and define access point. here you can set things like wep key etc. most of it you can leave as default.

when you've done all that go back to the active standby screen, and choose the blue and green earth symbol. depending on how you set it up, it may ask you straight away to conect to an access point, click no the first time and choose the settings menu from the options list.
for access point. choose, always ask.
you can choose other stuff here like homepage etc.
now when you try and open a bookmark or enter a web address it will ask you to connect to an access point and give you a choice, one of which will be the wifi access point.

if you are still stuck it's worth checking out that link above.

there aren't many decent programs out for it yet, cos it uses a new operating system and all the old progs don't work.

Thanks man, im now posting from my phone via my home internet connection! Its pretty amazing, only when i hit right i always seem to hit the red hang up button and it closes everything. I guess ill get used to the phone eventualy.

im after on of these, but im wondering, is it possible to buy wifi cards as i dont currently have wifi in my house? :(

im on ADSL... can i buy a wifi card for a pc?

and do i have to pay for the internet on my phone?

I don't have the N80(yet) but to answer your questions Neon, yes you can buy Wifi cards, some available here as USB or you can buy PCI cards but you might be better off buying a modem/router and connecting your PC as normal through the wired connection and your phone through the wireless as this will give you more options.

You won't pay for wireless access through your phone from your home internet connection/any free access point but if you use WAP/GPRS/EDGE then yes you normally have to pay a certain amount based on downloads.

im on service pack 1 is this an issue? cos if not ill buy a PCI card. its just for use around my pc is on most of the time.

Just an idea, if you're going to use the internet on your phone only around your PC, why don't you just use your PC :p?

erm while im downstairs lol? etc.... in the garden?

Sorry i didn't realise downstairs and in the garden where around your PC. But yeah that would work :D

lol cheeky bugger, you get the drift of what i meant, does it matter that i dotn have SP2, as i know SP2 has the wireless net settings, or can i configure it under network connections?

I very much doubt it would matter, because the PCI cards all come with drivers etc... Why can't you get SP2 anyways? SP3 will be out soon i think!

i like SP1 :p heh :)
