I got this phone last week thinking that Sat Nav will come installed and ready to play with straight away. I've found out the following things which I'm concerned about and wanted to know if anyone can shed some light on my questions below please?

- The phone comes with Nokia and Vodafone maps. What one is the best and are they both proper Sat Nav programs?

- When I try running Vodafone maps, it sits at a 'fixing position...' message or something and cannot locate me/my route

- When I tried running Nokia maps, I discovered I needed to pay £5 per month to have Sat Nav enabled on account (this happened and I got somewhere eventually) but then I discovered I had to pay a further fee to have voice recognition. I havent installed this yet as I dont want to pay more money just to have Sat Nav and I find it rather strange that I have to pay for 2 things just to get Sat Nav up and running!!

- When I try and use Nokia maps with no voice recognition, I enter a location and select 'Navigate to' and it finds where I am but doesn't guide me to where I've chosen, the cursor just sits on that current street I'm on and doesn't move.

Can anyone help?

nokia maps in its default state will show you where you are on a map, and i believe you can get it to draw a route on the map.

what it WONT do is turn by turn navigation like 'real' satnav units. you have to pay nokia extra for that. that said, nokia maps 2.0 is pretty decent at it once you've paid imo. note that its not permanent either - you can buy licences for different lengths of time (up to 3 years for 70ish euros).

make sure you download any maps you might want on your pc from the nokia website, and use the maploader to load them onto your phone.

i dont know what voda are charging you a fiver p/m for...sounds like a con to me. if its agps (assisted gps) then get em to take it off as its not needed imo.

as for not getting satellite lock in vodafone maps (no idea what this app is, im in ireland and it didnt come on my voda n95 8gb), you might need to leave it searching (outdoors or in the car) for a good while so it can work out what satellites it can see etc.

you can get tomtom6 for that phone too. I have it running on my N80

Note that you might need a seperate gps device if your internal one doesn't work with the aftermarket software.
