Apparently it has similar specs to the N95 8Gb, but with improved dual LED flash and extra memory/microsd slot. Seems pretty pointless to me - why Nokia, why? - At least its FP2 - ie full integrated flash support.

edit - Its obviously a good phone and an improvement on the N95 8Gb however hardly a big step up, I am just a bit dissapointed (considering the N95 was released a year ago - not much in terms of hardware has changed)

Specs:

- Quadband EDGE
- Dualband HSDPA 850/2100 MHz
- DVB-H Class C
- 92 cc volume
- 125 gram weight
- 103 x 55 x 18 mm
- 16 GB internal memory AND a microSD slot; 24 GB total if you spend an extra $80
- 950 mAh battery
- 6.1 cm (2.8 inch) 320×240 display with 16 million colors
- 3.5 mm headphone jack
- WiFi (802.11b/g)
- AGPS
- Dedicated gaming buttons
- 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens that also does VGA video recording at 30 FPS, Dual -LED flash that can also be used when video recording
- S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (Flash Lite 3 enabled web browser included)
- microUSB

I wonder what the slide in the other direction does, seeing as there already seems to be dedicated media playback keys around the D-pad.

the dual slide in my n95 is pretty much pointless, i wish nokia would drop it and concentrate on making the rest of the phone better. only a higher res screen would make me upgrade again. hopefully it will be vga.
i already miss the higher res screen from my n80

Someone posted this on another forum...
According to a leak posted on the net pages, the sequel to Nokia N95 has been spotted. Called the Nokia N96, it seems to feature the gaming controls and media controls hosted on the N81. Sporting a large LCD screen, the two-way slider will have a higher resolution, 5-mp cam with Carl Zeiss optics. Rather than featuring a single Xenon bulb for flashlight like seen on the N82, this one will feature two LEDs. Going by the leaked info, the N96 includes updated version of Symbian Series 60 OS seen on the high-end Nokias that revolve around strip-like icon interface suited for multitasking.

As it's with leaked news, there is no info on the details like release date and pricing of the Nokia N96. Hopefully it will be introduced at the Mobile World Congress in February. But considering the extent of info leaked we can safely assume that the device will be out early next year.

I do wish Nokia would stop making phones that look nice or are 'cool' on paper, and make one that actually works!

6230, where are you?!!!

Ordinarily, i'd agree with you, but their two 8Gb phones are very good.
I have the N95 8Gb and its a stunning phone. Well built, fast, bug free GUI, great battery life, feature packed.
And if what ive heard is correct, the N81 8Gb is good as well.

Lets just hope the N96 continues their roll...

I can get a new phone on contract soon, once every 18 months :( so I want something solid but worth while :)

Most I normally use a phone for is pictures (past upgrades being k750i and then the k800i).

Can someone give me some hints as to the practical uses for one of these high end nokia phones?

Thanks

I have the N81 8GB and agree its a very solid phone, for a slide one especially. I just can't help but think theres a few things they could have put a bit more thought in to while designing it. To me, a lot of things have been added on, most very well, but a few do seem still stuck on, and not consolidated to the rest of the phone.
