Hi, I've been doing some research in the area of entry-level stereo amps and have been reading good things about NAD amps. The NAD 3240PE is a particular model that I see popping up on the likes of Gumtree near me that I'd appreciate some opinions on.

I'm planning on using the amp in conjunction with a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 7.1s. Is £70 a good price for this amp? Cheers.

edit: the same chap seems to be selling a NAD 304 for £60.

Oddly I still have a NAD 3240PE, it was my first ever hifi amp. It's ancient, I think I bought it over 25 years ago.

Have no idea if it's a good price or not as its so old but you will enjoy it, I used to spend many an hour enjoying listening music on it.

I actually decided to go for the cheaper, yet equally well reviewed, 304. The seller accepted a lower offer so I'm happy.

If the 3240pe is in good working order and looks tidy then £70 is a fair price, and probably a bit of a bargain. That might be surprising to hear for an amp that's possibly 25 years old, especially when there's new amps around for £150 with similar or greater power on paper.

The thing with these old Hi-Fi amps is their performance punches way above their used price. The original NAD 3020 was a bit of a giant killer and turned the tables on quite a few more expensive amps in its day. In today's market you'd need to spend north of £500 to be assured of buying something new that sounds better. NADs are also renown for their power.

I think you'll have fun if you partner the 3240 with some decent gear.
