NAD C320BEE Problem

Hey Everyone,

I bought my NAD C320BEE some years ago - round about 2004.

It's always had an intermittent problem that I have learned to live with and I have had no problems, then it cropped up again.

What happens is, once it's on, whichever input I'm using, there is barely any sound out of it - something like 11-12 o clock is when I hear a small whisper of music.

I've noticed 4 fuses on the power board - each with clear glass tubes in the middle, but these seem to all be fine (I would expect the whole thing to not come on at all if these were faulty or blown).

So I'm thinking that the Main Board is faulty as opposed to the Power Board.

Before I take it all apart; has anyone come across this before and how did you resolve it?

All help greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Just tipped it on it's side and took an inspection plate from the bottom. Some of the soldering looks very messy if I'm honest.

But I've also had a hot 60w spotlamp shining on it, so I could see what was going on and after switching it back on, it seemed to kick into life again - giving me a heart attack nearly (it's set to around 9 o clock).

Could it be a dry joint that has caused this?

Yeah, check for dry joints first. Do you have any liquid flux? It will help clean up the joints when reheating.

Just so we're both on the same page.... we aren't talking getting excess flux off. The stuff you want is the flux itself.

It's the liquid form of what's already in solder. It's the stuff that helps get rid of the cack and contaminants on the parts to be joined so you don't get dry joints in the future.

What you'll be doing is reheating the joint and possibly applying a little extra solder. But there won't be enough flux in the small amount of solder you'll use to do a decent job of cleaning the existing solder and parts. That's why it's useful to have some liquid flux for re-flow jobs like this.

You can little bottles of quality no-clean liquid flux from Ebay for about £8 delivered.

Oh!!

I see!

Sorry, my bad, the last soldering I did was reversing the yellow and red cables on my ISO extension lead, hence then lack of thought. They'll be lots of flux available at work :)
