Anyone using nagios core? If so how are you backing it up, are you just making sure you have any scripts/addons and all the cfg files somewhere safe?

Is there a better option?

Cheers

Not using Nagios at the moment, but another Linux monitoring tool using plain text files for configuration.
I run a custom script that tar's all the config files and emails them once a week.
Reinstalling Linux and getting the monitoring software installed is the easy bit, I don't fancy rebuilding config files for over 1500 objects by hand, having a backup of the config files makes this fairly painless.

OK thanks, that's pretty much how I'm handling it, I don't fancy losing the config files after all that time I spent modifying them.

Hi mate

I use nagios core all over the place and backing up is just a case of doing what you said, just run a tar czf on your config files and any custom work you might have done.

You can also compress the archives folder which is used when you are looking back at alerting history (I think)

If I can recommend some additional addons for Nagios check these out, they are really cool:

pnp4nagios
nagiosql
nagvis
check_mk (livestatus, nagvis uses this)
