Hello there - apologies in advance for asking these but this is my first venture into website design/build and I'm looking for some guidance. As ever, any help is greatly appreciated.

So.....I've built my first site for a friend who owns our village shop...it's not exactly state of the art but as I say, it's my first attempt ;)

Anyway - I've had the site on a live server for a few weeks now but it's still not being picked up in search engines at all - I've no idea if this takes longer or not.... I've stuck lots of relavent search words in the site and on Google but to no avail. Is there anything else I can do to speed this up and get the site noticed by search engines or is it just a matter of time....

Cheers

Guys - thank you both for the quick replies....

I have already done the addurl thing on Google (hopefully correctly ;)) and I think I have done the verification thing correctly - however, let me check that....

Now - I've built the site using WebPlus X2 which doesn't allow me to put the meta tag in the right place (I assume as it failed to verify when I ran the Google tool) so I used option B which is the adding the xxxx/google????? page to the site. The problem here is that my site is hosted on a friends server and so is actually www.server.co.uk/mysite. Would this have an impact on how search engines would pick this up? Sorry again that this sounds woolly - but it's all new to me...

Cheers
