So to reflect the other thread about what you love about OSX, what do people hate about it?

I hate that it does not have a global view option for finder windows. You have to set each and every folders view settings individually.

i hate that it feels 'slow', it never feels as sharp and responsive as win2k for me (i have this same criticism of xp)

I also hate the apparent lack of keyboard shortcuts, particularly when i go to shutdown i can't press enter to confirm but have to click the button with the mouse - tiny, but frustrating for me, i don't have to touch the mouse to shut down windows or solaris

There are too many shortcuts for me to keep track of. There are people out there that hardly ever have to use the mouse, thanks to shortcuts for just about everything.

The ones you're looking for:

Ctrl+Option+Cmd+eject = Shut Down without a prompt.
Ctrl+Cmd+eject = Reboot without a prompt.

Or, even better: Ctrl+Eject then enter to shut down, S to sleep, R to reboot. :)

brilliant! thanks, don't suppose you know of a site with some more useful ones

I don't like the way you can't do "on-the-fly" things such as folder renames, file renames, file deletes in the file-open/save dialogue boxes like you can on Windows. A small feature but very handy.

The lack of an equivalent to DVDdecrypter/RipIt4me and DVDRebuilder.
MacTheripper and Toast are sadly not as powerful.

There also does not appear to be any upscaling DVD player software like ffdshow. :(

Oh and two more things - the fact that Front Row cant play DVDs from a hard drive and the fact that MediaCentral, which can, has to have them in a VIDEO_TS folder (when I have dozens in .iso format).

So thats four things, sorry. ;)

I don't like the fact that you can't create files on the go, on Windows you can create a document by right clicking and choose the one you want, on OSX you have to open the program you want and then save the file.

I agree with that. AnyDVD is very useful on Windows. I did ask Slysoft about this and they were looking into a Mac OS X version of AnyDVD/CloneDVD.

Why don't you use Handbrake to convert them into H.264 which'll play in Front Row and also (even if you rip at 100% quality) save you some hard disk space :)

Hi Fillado,

Thanks for that tip - I was hoping someone would contradict me.
I will give that a go.
Is the quality of the handbrake ripped file as good as a larger, DVD format rip?

Update - busy ripping 'The Descent' at 100% quality to H.264 so I will soon see for myself what the picture looks like. :)

Update - quality was same as DVD rip. Great. :)
Ta,
Solp

No you don't  Just tell it to set your prefs to all folders  Edit: Ah view, im so used to setting them now Im not fussed :p

Things that I hate.

Hmm, this is actually very tricky, easily list a load of things for Windows but OS X. Seriously,, im really having to try hard to think of something.

It just works for me, and i've been using it long enough to get past any problems quickly, so 10/10 from me

Anything I can think of is just **** coding from other companies (Eg Flash is very slow or slower than the equiv PC of the time).

CR.
