Afternoon people,

When leaving work yesterday I noticed a short metallic scraping sound coming from the front wheels of the Yaris. The noise is relative to my speed..the faster I'm going the shorter and closer together the scrapes are, and it occurs once per wheel revolution.

Initially I thought maybe a stone had jammed between the disk and the thin metal cover behind it (technical term!), but the noise seems to be coming from both sides of the car. It gets louder when turning the wheel, moreso to the left than the right. Turn left and the right sides makes the noise, and vice versa. Its quite loud at the start of the journey, but after a 20 mile drive home down the motorway it seems to disappear.

I've done 30k miles on both the disks and pads, and admittedly they've had some abuse. The disks are a little scored, but nothing drastic and they don't appear to be warped as theres no steering wheel wobble when braking.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be before I pop it down to the garage to see what they think? This thread is guilty of no pics cos its far too warm out in the back garden :)

Ta,

Andy
