Hi

I'm not sure if anyone here would know much about the cables on the inside of monitors but I might as well try you.

I've got a TFT on the bench and I've found a generic looking kind of piece of inteface cable that I need a longer piece of, can anyone put a name or serial number to it and/or tell me where I could get some more (digikey?)?

It's got 20, I think, separate tracks on it see the pictures here: Photographs

Same cable that you find inside mobile phones, just purely known as a ribbon cable.

Tis all i know, sorry :(

That is just a specialised form of ribbon cable. The one in the photo has a thin plastic laminate insulation that is used for internal board interconnections rather than for an external cable where normal, flexible insulation is used.

In addition, the one in the photo has been made specially with that curve so that the tracks on the inside of the radius are shorter than on the outside to give a perfect bend (without kinks) required for its application.

Unfortunately as above and custom made for each individual task :(

Only thing i can think of is to find a similar cable then by carefully scraping the insulation away solder the two together or create a splice! not easy and not guaranteed either but it is possible as i have repaired similar cables on laptop screens, Steady hand, good magnifier and also good temp controlled soldering iron.
