Had this game as a kid, recently came into my mind:

You were a guy, with jeans and i think a red t shirt that could jump into comic books. These comic books were levels with a cartoony atmosphere, and it was a side scrolling punch em up. There were little introductions for each level, character may have worn glasses.

it was on PC I am fairly sure.

Indeed it is Comix Zone, loved that game! On the first level I remember those guys with the hooks I always thought they said "pack it in"
