Name the object

Bit of fun for a Friday, does anyone know what this is:

I'm told it is a toy from the 70's or 80's but I can't see what you would do with it and I don't remember ever seeing one when i was a kid.

Any ideas?

What size is it? The first thing that springs to mind is it's the jawa transport thingy from the original Star Wars (must get out more

I don't know it's size but it's deffo not a Jawa transport but I can see where you were coming from.

Seen that before but can't remember its name or how to play it

afaik its a kind of stone age space invader thingy,those black spots in the middle are lights and they move down the lines towards you.
Then again,it might be something else completely
