OK - many years back I had a game... I thought it was called Battlefield something or other but google is not helping.

Basically I was a spacey game, with lots of 3d polygon graphics and you took control of different vehicles in 1st person view (maybe 3rd) and you could control or order the other vehicles.

You had a fixed number of "pilots" and you could build ships using a building module thingy. You needed to collect some kinda of space ore using little harvesters and that paid for the ships. If you ran out of pilots, the ships would just sit around.

You were on a kinda on moon/planet and there were loads of missions, including trying to find and recover alien technology.

The install would run through and there was commentry about the organisation being started (I think it's supposed to be like NASA) and the end of the install played a video of a space craft launching - very cool back when it was out.

Anyone got any idea what the game was??

That doesn't look 100% legit, but I have found one on the auction site, still shrink wrapped. I rememeber the delight in running the upgraded graphics version when I got a 16Mb AGP card lol!

It was great, when you zoomed in all you could see in the scope was a tiny blip of light which was the head to aim for.

I used to love the catapulty things shooting supplies half way accross the world, which you forgot about then 10 mins later it all started to rain from the sky!

I actually have a copy lying around, thought it was in one of my plastic game boxes but it seems to of gone missing :(

Mine was an OEM type copy (paper wallet job) that I got with my "new PC" (Pentuim II-350 100Mhz FSB, 128Mb PC100 RAM, 6GB Samsung HDD and 8Mb ATI Expert98 graphics card) all for a cool £1,200..hahaha My current mobile phone has faster CPU, more RAM, more storage and faster graphics!

Sadly the CD got damaged about 8 years ago

Theres also this though if you're still in doubt.

It seems some yet don't know that Battlezone is free to download and play online. For more info and full game download visit Battlezone community at http://www.battlezone1.net/

Is this legal? After a quick glance at that site, I couldn't find any statement to that effect. That would be sweet though, I always wanted to try this one out and they even have a patch to make it playable under modern OS. .

I'm sure it's legal. I remember reading in a magazine about it being released for free, a couple years back. .
