Hi all, trying to remove an annoying virus/spyware off a colleagues computer.

There was some software I once used which you would install, and then after a restart would scan your computer before all the services load, I remember it having a greeny red apple at the top and then it would go through all the things it thought were dodgy so you could delete.

I know description is fairly vague but someone might know :)

Cheers guys

I don't know if its the one you used before but avast has a boot scan which I've used to do the same as you are asking for.

Well problem is a fake anti virus program called security essentials 2010, and so far nothing I have tried is working, can't access task msg, regedit, cmd or anything that could be useful.

Download the free version of MalwareBytes (along with the latest definitions), boot up in safe mode, disable System Restore and run a full scan.

Avast home edition used to allow for a scheduled scan before Windows had loaded up. But don't know if the new version 5 allows for this.

Edit: Seems Avast 5 is limited to 32-bit only. Not sure about version 4.x

Used that yesterday, failed to get rid of the virus, might be reinstall time :(

Its like admitting defeat

Try these in this order,Hitman Pro trial, Malwarebytes, A Squared Antimalware free
and SuperAntispyware , SuperAntispyware has tools to restore the task manager etc
