Can a named driver call an insurance company to check whether they are insured or not or does this breach data protection??

Any help would be great and can explain the story if anybody knows.

I would imagine they would only speak to the policyholder about a policy.

Yeah that is my worse feeling, the problem is how is a named driver meant to ensure their legal without access to up to date information.

Myself and the mrs take turns to insure the car, so the policy is sometimes in her name with me as the main driver - in this situation I've had no trouble phoning up to talk about the policy as I'm a named driver on it, but they wont make any changes without her present.

So long as you know the security details and you are named on the policy they should speak with you

I mean the real question is about a friends insurance, they just want to know are they insured or not. The policy says they are but a relative thinks they heard them cancelling them off the insurance. Bit of a nightmare as the policy holder insists all is fine, however for some reason they were denied a tax disk due to insurance on Wednesday. The MID says it is insured, however it can take a few days to update. Bit of a nightmare for the named driver as they are at the mercy of the policy holder.

Glad I have my own car and insurance lol.
