Im just wondering which one to get, from what i gather Napoleon is a updated version of Empire which had AI/Bug problems?

I was going to buy this the other day, but didn't have enough as i bought Starters Orders 4, so offer now means i can buy either. Ive had most of previous Total War games, and loved them.

Does anyone own either, which one best to plum with. Im guessing i don't need Empire to play Napoleon game?

Empire and Napoleon are independant. I believe Napoleon has had better reviews. There's a demo available on Steam, although it's cheaper to buy it at Game - now down to a tenner.

I was going to pick it up but was put off after someone mentioned that it needs to download 21Gb through Steam ... can someone confirm this?

that sounds like a installation issue, u need to make sure its installing from the disk not downloadng, my copy of empire did it as did my orange box copy.

Personally I think napoleon would be best to pick up now, as that is the one they are now spending time updating and expanding. Although it doesnt have as big campaign map and as many factions it still proves a challenge.

Im just hoping for them to add an iberian peninsula mini campaign. :D

I own both (in fact I have the whole total war series) and I would definitely recommend napoleon over empire.

It's not a small game, Installed from the disk though

Thanks, probably only time i bought at right time. I remember buying Arma 2 for i think £40, and then 2 days later down to £25 or something like that.

They got games twice the price as in shops, considering no disc or case seems abit crazy why a download is more expensive.:o

Although I was quite hyped to get Empire and Napoleon Total War I think the gameplay is significantly altered from previous Total War games, I really miss melee combat, swords and shields, charging around and flanking etc.

I've gone back to playing MW2 and Rome total conversion mods. Standing in lines and shooting gets very dull, very quickly, at least for me.

I got Napoleon and its good fun. There are some really good mods out already, plus the graphics and sounds on the battlefield are very impressive.

OK I understand its not everyones cup of tea as the battles are musket based in the main, but theres nothing like watching your men march forward, falling to their death before charging a line.... there is some melee still.

Artillery and Cavalry still play their part and although I think the size/scale of the battles can be smaller than the older TW games (unsure didnt play them bar MW1), having 4000+ men on either side though is still impressive with all the noise and fireworks.

Sorry I cant compare them, bt Napoleon does stand up quite well as a game on its own right (even more so if you like/have interest in that era.. ie think Sean Bean & Sharpe)

I do like the game, though it the battles don't seem to flow quite as well as they did in Rome, I guess the use of mainly projectile weapons is the cause of that. The battles are very visually impressive

Still very enjoyable, I do like getting some devastating cannon barrages on target, they tear infantry to shreds

NTW is much better gameplay wise but the campaign and world map are smaller and therefore a tad bit more limited.

Multiplayer is more balanced and I have to say that the mods I have used so far are on NTW are better than the mods I used in ETW.

I would not go back to ETW after playing NTW.

If only they would re do Rome with modern graphics and AI engines... sigh

Yea me too, I've spent MANY hours playing Rome, arranging my legions and striking down the barbarians :D

I'd love them to go back to Rome now that they've done 2 games in an early modern setting I'd rather they stayed away from contemporary conflicts as they've got many games games about them already

I've played Napoleon and Rome total war, and I'll have to say. Rome Total War is way better. Its just more get in there and fight with men and not stand in a line type action.....

Although Napoleon needs a bit of time to play, something I've not got a lot of recently......

for me though, rome total war is still the best total war game I've played. Shame it looks so dated by todays standards.

I've been getting back in to Empire recently and am enjoying the experience. I won't buy Napoleon though, purely on principle.

I'm sure CA will consider Rome 2 at some point, and I have no doubt it would look great, but we all know what the AI would be no different from all the other Total Wars... :D

I have no issues with the mainly ranged combat nature of Empire, but I would love to get back to some serious legion smashing phalanx based action once more.
