Hi guys,

I've recently made another post with regards to a customer I've been helping. I'm looking at overhauling their network; I moved them onto office 365 several months ago and now they want to shift out their old IT hardware.

Because they are using cloud solutions and no longer want a tonne of hardware in their office I'm looking at a simple solution, please see image below:

Can anyone comment as to whether NAS is a reliable backup solution? (I look to move their Sage to a hosted solution in the future)

Cheers!

Jamie

You still need an offline backup - removable tape etc. - one crypto virus could propagate across the whole setup.

It's good for practical reliability but as mentioned above relying solely on on-site backups is a recipe for disaster.

If you've got the connection speed to have a rolling backup then do that, if not then go down the NAS route and have it backup once or twice a week overnight.

maybe look at hosted solutions like you said but they can cost... You could even rent a rackspace server and have a point to point VPN with Sage on it

Reckon I'm better off looking at hosting Sage for them?

Our Sage is hosted remotely for all our leisure centres and it's substantially cheaper and generally easier than in-house, as they used to run the servers locally.

I'll be honest with you, it's cheaper and more effective these days to just get everything hosted, that is to say if you've got a bombproof connection with a decent SLA.
