I am currently using qnap TS-453A-4G that is running Kodi, Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, and Sabnzbd. It sits underneath my TV and is connected via HDMI. I will be moving out shortly (onto the property ladder, yay!) and will be leaving the QNAP with the parents as it is easy enough for them to use.
Nas devices such as these, although work fine, are quite expensive for what you get (power and lack of customisability), so I am looking to build myself. Main conundrum I have is, do I combine the nas and the HTPC into one box for under my tv?
The NAS will need to run 24/7 (not a high amount of storage, 4 bays at most), so if the HTPC is included, I expect a larger power usage (I'm not sure how much). The content will be 1080p
If I don't combine them, I instead have a low powered nas - but what would I then use as the HTPC? I have used the Rasp Pi 3 in the past, but Kodi seems a bit sluggish (lots of movies, so lagged when scrolling fast and clicking through menus). I've heard good things about the Nvidia Shield, but haven't has any experience. Anyone got a similar set-up and knows what works best for them?
TL;DR - Do I have a nas and HTPC in one device, or a seperate NAS and also a device such as the Nvidia Shield?
Thank you
