HI. I have an iOmega ix2-200 nas on a domain network (Windwos Server 2003).

The nas ip address is 192.168.1.4, and its name on the network is NAS.

From all other computers, I can browse the directory using the ip address (\\192.168.1.4) or the netowrk name (\\NAS).

On ONE pc only (windows 7), I can't access the nas using the IP address. It asks for username and password to even list the folder contents (the root doesn't have any security on it). Then any username/password i give it doesn't work. The user is logged in on the domain just like everyone else, and I've even tried changing him to an administrator.

The hosts file doesn't have anything in it.

Why is the ip address not working but the network name is working? Seems most online problems are the other way round.

Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

Perhaps tweaking settings there might have an affect.

try a username of just 'guest', or 'guest@NAS'. For password try leaving blank, but if you have to enter something anything should do.

What do you get if you ping NAS from the command line?

This makes no logical sense.

Ping by name but not IP would suggests the IP has changed and DNS is simply pointing to the newer IP, but as it's still on the same IP that can't be the case.

I had a similar problem and the following was the advice I was given that did the job:

Start
Run

services.msc (enter)

Set the following services to AUTOMATIC and then start them:

DNS Client service on automatic.

SSDP Discovery service on automatic.

UPnP Device Host service on automatic

Function Discovery Resource Publication service on automatic

========================

Then go to Network and Sharing Centre

(Left pane) "Change advanced sharing settings"

Turn on network discovery

"Save changes"

None of the above methods worked. But then someone told me to go to:
Local Security Policy>Local Policies>Security Options

and change "Network Security: Lan Manager authentification level" from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM and NTLM responses "

This worked! but I don't understand it. So far there's been one other computer that has had this problem and it was fixed using the same method. (both computers that had this problem are domain computers, one vista and one windows 7).

Is this an issue with my NAS box?

If that was the case then no vista or win7 pcs would work. It's just two that aren't working, the rest are a mixture of vista and win7, some on domain some not, and they work fine :-(

Yeah you'd think so. I'd console yourself with the fact that it's working now. Simple networking of differing operating systems is either plug and go or the stuff of nightmare.

I had a similar problem with my QNAP TS-509. The fixed you detailed was the workaround. It's since been fixed with a firmware upgrade. I would ensure you have the latest firmware installed.

It's nto the secuirty of the shares because they work fine on other computers and i've tried recreating the users but it doens't work.

I guess i have to just wait for a firmware update. :-(
