I have a Lacie Ethernet BigDisk connected via USB to my laptop (Vista SP1).

It has a problem where by at random intervals (normally when its being written to, downloading torrents to it or extracting a rar file, but sometimes just when playing media off it or totally at random) it disconnects its self so it no longer accessibly requiring a restart of the device or my computer in order to access it again.

How can I stop it doing this as its extremely annoying..

Have you had a look in your event viewer to see what the OS reports?

EDIT: Obvious things to try are another USB port and another USB cable?

Tried another port.. no luck. Tried my printer cable but its quite long (as is my current one and I dont know if that would make a difference?) and didn't seem to help.
Next time it does it I'll look in event viewer.

edit: cant see anything that looks relevant in event viewer.

It sorta works for about a minute then when I'm trying to copy a file from one directory to another comes up with the copying file dialogue box with 3mins remaining on it (which is weird cos it should/used to be instant to cut and paste files) then near the end (about the last 20mb or so) disconnects and says the network device is no longer available.

edit2: nevermind, I've switched back to using it with a network hub instead of USB and it works ok.
