Knowledgeable people!

Recently purchased a Samsung Smart TV, its a series 6 'C' model - cant remember the exact specific code but hopefully that's enough to go on! It has wireless built in, so presumably is 'findable' on our home network in some way shape or form.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible to stream media from a NAS drive to the TV via the network (wireless, RJ45 or direct HDMI). If so, what do I need to look for in a NAS drive other than the amount of GB storage it offers?

Any helpful hints or tips gratefully received!

Without stealing your thread fRostiE, I'm looking to do the same on my TV. I'm currently on Google searching for solutions so if I find anything I'll let you know. Else wise I'm gna sub this thread and see if anything pop up from someone who might know :).

I stream to my Samsungs using a bit of software called PS3 media server which can stream to the Samsung Allshare App.

This means having a server (or a switched on PC/laptop) rather than a NAS. If you go down the NAS route, you need something that can act as a DNLA server such as the Synlogy NAS boxes.

Basically yes, if you buy a NAS of any sort it will most likely have a media server installed,

I use a zyxel, which has twonky installed and it works very well,

I would also consider just plugging a hard drive into the USB

I've recently bought a WD MyBookLive. It also has the Twonky media server installed and will do what you want.

I'm looking at upgrading my router soon and have noticed that some of them are capable of streaming media.

Get a Synology DS112j, stick a WD Red drive in and use the inbuilt media server. Job done. Also has mobile apps and a world of functionality.

Or as suggested above you could just get a portable hd, slap your media on it and plug that in.

Samsung use DLNA on their TV's. They brand it "Allshare".

Pick a NAS that has a DLNA server and check the Samsung file support.

Voila.
