My Netgear Ultra 4 popped it's clogs yesterday. Good job I was off work cos it started sizzling and I was able to turn it off. It looks like the psu has gone cos it wont power up or anything and it smells of burnt wires. Anyway, I've had it for less that a year so I can get it exchanged. However, when I was speaking to the retailer I asked about the possibility of changing it for something else and they said no problem. I'm thinking of changing it to a Synology DS411+II as I like the front end software they use, this is something I've never really liked about the Netgear.

Would getting the Synology be better than Netgear? I could just get another Ultra 4 cos I now know how to set it all up whereas with the Synology I'd be starting from scratch. Anyway, let me know your thoughts.

By the way, luckily I'd done a backup of all my data this week so I haven't lost too much. Always do some sort of backup, you never know when you might need it :)

I cant really suggest that specific synology as im on the lower end but I just bought and Setup a DS211 and its a great piece of kit. The one thing you wont need to worry about with the synology is set up as the software on it is fantastic and so easy to use. plus its 2 years warranty as well.
