NAS help needed

I have an icy box 4220 connected to my orange livebox but I can't see it on the network.

I have disabled DHCP on the NAS and I've tried to obtain an IP automatically and also tried to assign an IP to it but either way I can't see it.

Now I'm not clued up on networking really so I need some help.

On the livebox my DHCP entries look like this

Subnet Net mask Start IP end IP Gateway
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.50 192.168.1.1
Broadcast Primary DNS
192.168.1.255 192.168.1.1

and this
Subnet Net mask Start IP end IP Gateway
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.145 192.168.1.244 192.168.1.1
Broadcast Primary DNS
192.168.1.255 192.168.1.1


So if I try to apply a static IP of 192.168.1.18 with subnet mask - 255.255.255.0, default gateway - 192.168.1.1
that should work right?

Does anyone have any suggestions please?
 
don't know anything about the NAS, does it suport windows workgroups, if so you nead to put it on the same work group as the rest of your systems.

then you should be able add a network drive on you PC.

ok sounds good. How do I add the NAS to a workgroup?

right click on my computer
go to computer name
click change
under workgroup, change it to something nice
do this on all your windows PC's
now you can share printers and files
if your NAS supports this
set its workgroup to the same name

now all your PC and hopefully the NAS will see each other. again no idea if this is going to work, it works between XP and Vista PC's, but I don't know about this NAS.

EDIT: have you tried sticking it on a static IP, and then adding a network place, using the wizard?
