Main PC is used for downloading and storing media at moment, mrs is complaining makes room hot, produces too much noise and too much power. Currently media is burnt onto dvd and played in living room.

Looking to get a small NAS/PC to download and host and a media player in two rooms (living room/bedroom)

Most of the media is mkv or avi files and was thinking of using (if it will work a couple of Raspberry PI as media players as they are cheap

For NAS not sure which best few choices thought of;

1) Single bay NAS such as Synology DiskStation DS111 for £120, 3tb HDD and if needed a usb drive, 12watts + USB HDD

2) Double bay NAS such as Synology Diskstation DS212J for £170 3tb HDD to begin with, 18 watts

3) Micro server (seen something about hp cashback) with 3tb to begin with however what software would i need and what costs (purchase/running) would be likely?

So any ideas little lost tbh.

Do have a xbox 360 downstairs if that would be of any use for streaming, and all connections would be wired (already there)

Synology NAS's are great and easy to configure. If you can afford the double bay go for it. Look for non-j models if possible as they have more memory and faster CPU's (ie get a 211 instead of a 212j).
