NAS on a University network?

Probably not, most universities have layer 3 switches setup to only allow traffic to thier gateway and block any traffic to other ports on the residential network.

When I was in halls we had a file server that could be accessed anywhere on campus in one of the rooms. Needless to say we had to shut it down when the Uni found out about the huge amounts of copy right infringements on it.
The most concurrent users was about 250 i think.

I would set up a shared file on your pc first and see if you can access that.

We did the same :)

don't think the university would like it.

but when in halls 4 years ago, we had people setting up wireless subnets, and stuff like this.

they don't like it as they have no control over it, but are legally responsible for it.
