Currently my pc goes pc > power line adaptor > router. I'm wanting to put in a NAS so it goes pc & NAS > switch > power line adaptor > router. This should work ok shouldn't it?

Yes - you want to keep the NAS and the PC on the switch to avoid being limited to powerline speeds which tend to be lower than gigabit.

If you have compliant wiring and follow the very simple advice given, powerline is reliable, spend more money and the kits are actually reasonably quick. Of course if you have crap wiring, poor noise suppression, use surge suppression incorrectly and don't understand the difference between a spur and a main socket then it's not going to end well. Either way a cable is always going to be better, though when I had to throw 12 GPU racks in random locations powerline saved me a trip hazard and agro more than once.
