Hi guys,
I purchased a Western Digital MyBook World II 2.0TB Gigabit Ethernet External Hard Drive (WDG2NC20000E) for a friend, from OCUK and it arrived on monday past.

He needed a lot of storage space as his company who do video production use very large file and i recommended this one. He installed it on Monday night and it was very easy to install basically just plug and play. However he transferred a 280GB project onto the drive and it took nearly 12hrs to complete???? Now i setup all his PC's and server and i know for a fact that he is using a gigbyte switch connected with cat5e cables.

I dont understand why it is taking so long to transfer such a large file? I know you will never get full 1Gbps but i was hoping to get more like 600 - 700mbps???

any ideas???

First off, http://www.cnet.com.au/desktops/storage/0,239029473,339275060,00.htm

Sequential writes on the MyBook were lower at 4.7 MB/s

And the Mionet stuff it comes with sucks.

I think 90MB/s write speed was a little optimistic on your part, dude.

On the plus side, if he's using Vista (especially on a laptop with lots of interfaces), he might be able to speed up transfer if he doesn't play music. There's a Vista bug that savages network performance to improve music playback. :) Although even if thats what's happening, you won't get the performance you're looking for. :(
